Promoting epilepsy awareness is something close to Gunselman’s Restaurant Group co-owner David Grace’s heart. David son was diagnosed with epilepsy years ago, and discovering how to manage his seizures was hard. Grace said, “Epilepsy is not a death sentence. Epilepsy can be live changing, but can be managed. Don’t let epilepsy control your life. Control your Epilepsy.

David shared that Empowering Epilepsy has helped him from a 3 prong effect:
You are not alone. There are a whole bunch of people who are living with epilepsy and it’s already great to know that others understand what you are going through.
To be able to understand that even when you are diagnosed with epilepsy, life goes on, and you can live and do the things you set your mind to, is empowering. Meeting other people from Empowering Epilepsy’s events shows my son that he can do things and set goals for himself.
The third thing would be to know how different medicines affect people differently and that there doctors who specialize in epilepsy. Being able to talk more about that information to get a better diagnosis helped a lot. Since my son is now a young adult, Leigh referred us to an adult epileptologist, helping us transition as he became a young adult, and allowing us to know we would be in good hands.
Empowering Epilepsy walks with us and answers any questions we have along the way to help us better control epilepsy.
