Empowering Epilepsy is a grassroots nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity organization created by people with epilepsy in Northeast Ohio for people with epilespy. Our events are either free or low cost thanks to donations from people, families, businesses, and foundations like you.

Whether helping the Empowering Epilepsy community as a whole, or donating in honor of or in memory of a loved one, each donation to Empowering Epilepsy directly helps people with epilepsy and their loved ones take charge of their lives.

Our programs are unique because we personally understand the hurdles our community members face when living with active seizures. Knowledge is power. We strive to find ways to educate people with epilepsy so they can better communicate with their doctors, and get a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan sooner.

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others, just like Hailey Thorn? For a decade, Hailey has triumphed over challenges and is now celebrating 10 seizure-free years in 2023. Her journey has inspired her to take action, and she's sharing her personal experiences with epilepsy on Facebook each month. But she's not stopping there – she's embarked on a mission to create awareness, understanding, and support for those living with epilepsy.

Why Start Your Own Fundraising Page?

Hailey's story is a testament to the power of community support. By starting your own fundraising page, you can follow in her footsteps and bring about positive change in the lives of individuals and families affected by epilepsy. Here's why you should consider taking the plunge:

✨ Empower Through Sharing: Just like Hailey, you can use your personal experiences to shed light on the challenges people with epilepsy face daily. Your story can help others understand the condition better and foster empathy within your community.

✨ Make a Meaningful Impact: By creating a fundraising page, you're not only raising funds, but also raising awareness about epilepsy. Your contributions will directly support initiatives that make a difference in the lives of those affected by epilepsy.

✨ Celebrate Milestones Together: Hailey's goal of raising $10,000 to celebrate her 10 years seizure-free anniversary is a remarkable feat. Imagine the joy of reaching your fundraising target and the lives you'll touch along the way.

Starting your own fundraising page is simple and impactful. Follow these steps to make a difference:

  • Share Your Story: Personalize your fundraising page by sharing your experiences and motivations. Your authenticity will resonate with potential donors and encourage them to contribute.

  • Set Your Goal: Whether it's $100, $1,000, or more, set a fundraising goal that reflects your aspirations. Let Hailey's journey remind you that every step counts toward creating change.

  • Spread the Word: Utilize social media, emails, and even your own creative content to spread the word about your fundraising campaign. Share regular updates to keep your supporters engaged and informed.

  • Celebrate Achievements: Just as Hailey aims to reach her $10,000 target, celebrate each milestone you achieve. The impact you make is a tribute to your dedication and the generosity of your supporters.

Qualified Charitable Distributions

Qualified Charitable Distributions or QCDs allow someone to donate directly from an IRA instead of taking their required minimum distributions. By doing a QCD, an individual is not subject to potential taxes that might be incurred by withdrawing money from an IRA.

Talk to your financial advisor for more information.

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support your favorite causes.

If you have a donor-advised fund, DAF Direct enables you to recommend grants to this nonprofit directly from your DAF (as long as your DAF's sponsoring organization is participating).
