To date, there are more than 30 known epilepsy syndromes and nearly half of people with epilepsy have an unknown cause.
Identifying a treatment plan can be a lengthy process and unfortunately not everyone responds to traditional medications. However, in 2012 the Stanley brothers changed the course of medicine by developing a high-CBD/low-THC oil. Known as Charlotte’s Web, the oil provided seizure patients with results other medications couldn’t and opened the door to further pharmaceutical development.
In 2018, GW Pharmaceuticals launched EPIDIOLEX, the first and only FDA-approved prescription cannabidiol to treat seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Dravet syndrome, or tuberous sclerosis complex. In recent years, the industry has grown exponentially, with hundreds of lotions and oils, CBD infused food and beer, but seldom do people recognize the lifesaving impact it continues to provide countless patients.
