New Year's Resolutions for People Living With Epilepsy

Last year in January, Fox 8 News contacted Empowering Epilepsy to do a story about epilepsy and the free programs and services we provide. Jennifer Jordan came out do an on site interview, and we discussed what is epilepsy, how many people are affected, how epilepsy is a chronic disease, and how uncontrolled seizures can affect our lives in so many different ways.
For the rest of the year, people from Northeast Ohio contacted Empowering Epilepsy to learn more and get involved, and they all said the same thing: “I was watching Fox 8 News and all of a sudden, I heard them talking about epilepsy! I completely stopped what I was doing and watched, as no one ever talks about epilepsy and seizures. I had to contact you.”
That is exactly why this nonprofit organization was founded - to help people with epilepsy live well with seizures outside of their doctor’s office. Empowering Epilepsy was created by people with epilepsy, for people with epilepsy, and we specifically understand that there is so much more to epilepsy than “just the seizures.” Empowering Epilepsy connects people with epilepsy to experts and peers for education, care, and friendship. We anchor a caring community that empowers our members and their loved ones to better understand and manage their treatment plan throughout their epilepsy journey.
From scratch, we have created a free Patient Education Program Roadmap to help you:
learn more about your or your loved ones specific diagnosis and treatment plan
discover how to collect the data your epilepsy specialist is looking for
learn how to better talk with your doctor
meet others who also understand epilepsy
get your seizures under better control
improve your overall quality of life
The Patient Education Program consists of 4 steps:
Free Client Intake - where we assess where you currently are in your epilepsy journey.
Free Patient Education Program - Empowering Epilepsy has created a free Patient Education Program Folder with educational inserts authored by some of the top epilepsy specialists in the country to better explain your diagnosis and treatment plan. People with epilepsy and their loved ones can meet with one of Empowering Epilepsy's Epilepsy Educators via Zoom or in person at Empowering Epilepsy Headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio for 1 - 2 hours, depending on the number of questions participants have, to learn more about their specific epilepsy diagnosis and treatment plan.
Free Monthly Age Based Virtual Support Groups that take place online via Zoom. They consist of an hour of Q & A with an Epilepsy Specialist, and an hour of talk time with other people in their specific age groups.
3 Annual Educational Conferences to learn more about epilepsy and seizures:
Brain Surgery Conference - Saturday, June 13, 2026
SUDEP Action Day Talk - Thursday, October 15, 2026
Empower Your Life Conference - Saturday, October 17, 2026
Empowering Epilepsy wants to walk with you throughout your epilepsy journey, helping you as much or as little as you need us. Our ultimate goal is to help you better understand your diagnosis and treatment plan to improve your overall quality of life.
For those living in Northeast Ohio, we also provide free in person support groups, free Art Therapy Classes, and free Functional Fitness Classes, as well as many other programs and services in 2026.
If you or a loved one is living with epilepsy, we encourage you to reach out to Empowering Epilepsy, and take advantage of the free programs and services we provide. This is a fantastic goal to set for yourself for 2026. Empowering Epilepsy is looking forward to helping you in the new year!
